Everything about that whole show we were filled with emotions from happiness to anger to sadness.
Champions and stars were made, we said welcome back to a great tag-team and goodbye to the biggest icon in wrestling history.
Without further ado, this is Super Mastodon's Review for WrestleMania 33!
WWE Cruiserweight Championship:
Neville def. Austin Aries
Neville and Austin Aries had a great match for the Cruiserweight Championship, they had an all-around match from technical to highflying.
It was the perfect choice for a match to "kick things off" and both men delivered what we expected out of them, I wish it could've been on the main show in exchange for the SD Women's match but too late to complain for that now.
Neville took advantage of Aries' eye injury by gauging his eye socket and giving him an upper hand and was able to hit the Red Arrow! I love how Neville only uses the Red Arrow these days as a "super finisher" for hard to beat opponents like Aries.
In the end The Greatest Man That Ever Lived failed to knock The King of the Cruiserweights off his throne! I predicted Neville to successfully defend his title and I'm glad I was right, Aries will win it in the future but Neville is having a fantastic run right now it would be too soon for him to lose the belt.
These two have brought life to the cruiserweight division and I hope more good things will come in the future because the division really has a lot of potential if given the right chances!
Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal:
Mojo Rawley Wins
First off let me note some of the highlights of this battle royal such as eliminations, wrestlers, etc.
Two wrestlers from NXT made their WrestleMania debuts here: Killian Dain (fka Big Damo) from SANITY who even reached the final 3 so that was cool and also we got the first Chinese wrestler to compete in the WWE: Tian Bing who eliminated Breezango! I still think my boy Ho Ho Lun got robbed of a WrestleMania spot but there's always next year!
Primo got eliminated as soon as the bell rang but hey he still got a payday out of it! My pick to win this match: Braun Strowman got eliminated quite early actually after eliminating some jobbers. Braun eliminated Big Show then got ganged up by the rest of the wrestlers in the ring.
After Braun got eliminated my next choices to win was either Sami or Harper but they were eliminated too! The final two we got was Mojo Rawley and Jinder Mahal, definitely not how I thought things would go!
On the outside, Jinder messed with Mojo's friend who's apparently a famous NFL player? I don't watch American Football so I have no clue who Rob Gronkowski is but hey he seems to be famous as he got a pop when got in the ring and attacked Jinder, Mojo eliminated the 1/3 of 3MB and got the victory!
Mojo Freaking Rawley won a match at WrestleMania! Seems like Zack Ryder's injury was a blessing in disguise for this man. I didn't like it, but I didn't hate it either. Seems like that summarizes how I feel about Mojo.
Other things to note: Goldust did a throwback on us with his old school ring gear on, sucks he got eliminated early. Speaking of eliminated early, The Usos were as well. So much for being Tag-Team Champions huh?
WWE Intercontinental Championship:
Dean Ambrose def. Baron Corbin
I'm sorry but this is one of the worst matches of the night, so lackluster and boring. I wish they would've made it a Street Fight or Falls Count Anywhere but it was just a standard singles match!
When added a simple stipulation like that, the strengths of both Ambrose & Corbin will definitely shine more. Dean being the crazy hardcore whacko that he is and Corbin is a "golden gloves champion" afterall.
It was so boring I decided not to even finish watching it. Dean beats Corbin, who cares? I'm a fan of both wrestlers but what a disappointment.
AJ Styles def. Shane McMahon
First off I was kinda shocked that they decided this as the opening match but the job of the opening match is to get the crowd riled up and these two are the perfect choice for that as AJ is beloved by the fans despite him being a heel and Shane is one crazy mofo!
There were a lot of cool spots on this match as expected from a match with Shane O'Mac. AJ attempted to hit Shane with the Coast to Coast but he got countered with the trash can and then it was Shane who successfully hit him with the move! There was also a table spot but this time AJ learned his lesson and dodged!
While there were indeed some crazy spots, we got a lot of in-ring action as well mostly submissions from both men. Shane still hit his awful punches though which is the only real negative thing about this match really.
AJ hits the Styles Clash with only one armed hooked but Shane kicked out, kinda surprised me actually. Shane then pulled off a freaking Shooting Star Press but missed completely, AJ took advantage of this and hit him with a Phenomenal Forearm to secure the victory!
These two exceeded the expectations of many fans and has proved of AJ Styles' reputation that he can truly carry anyone to a great match! What a match to start off the show and I'm glad The Phenomenal One finally gets a WrestleMania victory!
WWE US Championship:
Kevin Owens def. Chris Jericho
These two had a good match like I said but it was mainly forgettable and would look like your usual match for a RAW or B-Show PPV.
One of my favorite spots though was Owens locking Y2J with The Walls and he actually did it great, better than Jericho these days in my opinion.
I also loved the bit where Owens managed to get a rope brea with just the tip of his finger! That's something you'd likely see in CHIKARA or DDT!
In the end Kevin Owens pinned Jericho with a Powerbomb on the ring apron and became the new United States Champion! Yes folks, two Canadians fought for the US Title!
RAW Women's Championship - Fatal 4 Way Elimination:
The entrances were cool, my favorite was Charlotte's. She looks beautiful in that robe and it's cool to see her wrestle in the place where her dad had his "last match." Sasha came out of a car, whatever and Bayley & Nia also had unique ring gear.
At the beginning of this match we got what was very similar to the NXT Tag-Team Titles match at TakeOver Orlando where DIY and Revival teamed up to take on Authors of Pain only this time we got Charlotte,Bayley, and Sasha teaming up to take down Jax!
As expected though Nia was the first to be eliminated despite showing a "dominating" performance after getting triple powerbombed by the 3/4 of the Four Horsewomen ala Shield! Just a quick note to Nia, I know they're trying to book her the next Chyna or Awesome Kong but she's just not doing it for me. She is so un-intimidating and I just can't seem to put my finger on it as to why.
When Nia got eliminated the match went downhill. Botches here and there, it wasn't a match everybody was expecting. Sasha got eliminated second and then Bayley won via an anticlimactic Macho Elbow to Charlotte. She successfully retained her RAW Women's Championship.
I think it's too early for Bayley to be the No. 1 in the women's division. Her character fits well with the underdog who will work her way to the top similar to Daniel Bryan, I like Bayley more as the one who will chase the belt and in the end winning it with a worthy victory!
The match itself was sloppy and honestly boring. Charlotte hits a nice highflying maneuver on the outside though but in comparison to last year's Charlotte vs Becky vs Sasha this was a letdown.
RAW Tag-Team Championships - Ladder Match:
Hardy Boyz Wins
I know there were already rumors of a Hardyz return but man seeing it actually happen is still surreal! So after all three scheduled teams made their entrances, we got the hosts New Day come out and announce that the match was turned into a "Fatal 4 Way."
For a second I thought it was gonna be the New Day adding themselves into the match cause they got their ring gear on and they got me as they announced The Hardy Boyz to come out!
Now it seems like they won't be portraying the Broken characters for now as the legal battle with TNA is still ongoing but it's still too early to complaint, I think we will see The Broken Universe soon in the WWE. There's no way TNA is going to have a legal battle with the Hardyz now that their back in the WWE!
Anyways DELETE! chants were heard all over the arena and this match for me is definitely Match of the Night. Not only because of the Matt & Jeff's return but all the teams gave us a great performance!
Cesaro & Sheamus did their signature moves in unison to The Club with Cesaro swinging Anderson and Sheamus chopping the hell outta Gallows! Matt & Jeff did their usual craziness with Matt hitting Anderson with the Twist of Fate from top of the ladders and Jeff hitting Cesaro with the Swanton 20 feet high!
Matt managed to take the belts and winning with a surprise victory for this amazing ladder match! The Hardy Boyz are back and are now your new RAW Tag-Team Champions, hopefully they will be BROKEN sooner rather than later!
Mixed Tag-Team Match:
John Cena & Nikki Bella def. The Miz & Maryse
For the past few weeks Miz & Maryse have been really giving it to Cena & Nikki not only in promos but in their funny ass realistic skits as well on their parody of "Total Bellas." These two are just perfect for each other!
We expected Cena & Nikki to win, obviously it's WrestleMania and it's John Cena we're talking about here but man did it feel like a glorified squash match. Miz & Maryse barely got any offense and the finish was the exact replica we saw on SmackDown.
It sucks because Miz & Maryse really did their best to hype everyone up for this match and they got treated like crap. The ones who didn't treat them like crap though were the crowd and they really cheered on The Miz to the fullest!
Afterwards we got Cena's proposal to Nikki, hooray? Miz & Maryse will get the last laugh though when Cena leaves again and Nikki will retire! Oh and Al Roker is the guest announcer but who gives a flying fuck?
Seth Rollins def. Triple H
This is WrestleMania of course HHH is back at it again with the badass entrances, he says Goldberg comes out with cops? Well he comes with cops WITH bikes on! Stephanie looks gorgeous as well.
Seth Rollins also comes out in a pretty cool entrance, he had a torch on and "lit" the whole ramp on fire! As for the match itself, it is what I expected a "non-sanctioned" match is they just brawled all over the place!
I wish they could've gone more into the crowd but it's fine. Some people I saw called this match boring but I was personally entertained by both men, they told a great story with Rollins' knees being the main target of HHH.
I know I may sound like a sadistic bastard but for how this match was build and it being non-sanctioned and all I wish they would've been blood involved! Just a little bit wouldn't hurt.
After Stephanie got crashed into the table causing HHH to get distracted, Rollins hits him with the Pedigree for the victory! Now that he has pinned Triple H with his own move, hopefully he moves on to a new finisher. A finisher that doesn't involved his knees that is!
Kudos to Triple H for putting over Rollins similar to Daniel Bryan at 30. Sure his "reign of terror" years ago was bad but ever since he got to creative, I think Hunter learned the importance of putting over the future generation. Kudos to Steph too for taking that table bump!
Overall an enjoyable match and I'm glad Seth Rollins didn't miss another Mania this year.
Randy Orton def. Bray Wyatt
There were a lot of weirdness going on to this match such as showing roaches and maggots in the ring, is that supposed to be Bray's new powers? I really don't get it.
Most of the time too I felt this match was just straight up boring, and the result was just plain "WTF?" Orton hits Bray with the RKO and finishes him making The Viper the new WWE Champion and a 13x World Champion.
The thing that I hate the most after weeks of interesting build up with Randy burning Bray's house and sister abigail down and then doing satanic ritual bullshit, THAT is how you end this match? How anticlimactic!
Also it's really hard to be a Bray Wyatt fan isn't it? We're back to square one with him. The wrong man definitely won and I think things would've been much more interesting if Luke Harper was added in the fray, instead he was an afterthought in the battle royal.
Plus so much for Randy winning the rumble and so-called "main eventing WrestleMania." I get it why they put Taker vs Roman last but still, that didn't make sense to me.
WWE Universal Championship:
Brock Lesnar def. Goldberg
As Youtuber: Pulse said in his review of WrestleMania, Goldberg and Brock Lesnar just set the bar for future heavyweight matches. I agree with him, that's how a battle between two mammoths should take place. Not a long 15 minute match but just a 5 minute match that gets the whole crowd hype up!
Yes there were only four moves that occured during this match: German Suplexes,F5,Spears,and the Jackhammer but it was entertaining from start to finish!
Lesnar kicked out of the Spear + Jackhammer combo, he also avoided the spear by jumping HOLY SHIT! They say white men can't jump, just look at Lesnar! Then we got a Goldberg spear onto the barricade to the outside.
10 German Suplexes and an F5 later though, Brock Lesnar pinned Goldberg and making him the new Universal Champion!
These two delivered a fun and memorable match! If you're expecting a 5-Star classic or a technical bout ala Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels, then you're watching the wrong match!
SD Women's Championship - 6 Pack Challenge:
It seemed like this match's length was cutdown from what it originally supposed to be. The entrances were rushed, Becky looks great though she looked like a fighting game character with that getup! The only one who got a proper entrance was the hometown girl: Naomi.
Also can we talk about how James Freaking Ellsworth is in WrestleMania?! This man started out as a local competitor, a supposed one time appearance and became an internet sensation! Couldn't be more happier for him!
Anyways like I said it looked like this match was supposed to be long but since the PPV was already at almost 7 hours at this point, they really cut it down. The match was a clusterfuck, that's the only way to describe it unfortunately.
Natalya hits on a double sharpshooter to Carmella and Mickie and it looked awful and something you'd see in a porno, it was so bad they didn't even bother replaying it from any angle.
In the end Orlando's own Naomi wins back the SD Women's Championship and celebrated her victory! Congrats to her but this match was obviously just a "buffer match" after the Universal Championship to the main event.
I don't think it was a piss break match though as that belonged to the Pitbull concert that I immediately skipped once I saw it.
No Holds Barred:
Roman Reigns def. Undertaker
There's no hiding it, the match was awful. It's on top there with one of the worst main events in WrestleMania history in terms of match quality and that's sad cause I never thought Undertaker would be involve in such a thing.
He was obviously way passed his prime and could barely walk, shades of Andre the Giant during the final years of his career. It also exposed Roman's inability to carry a match. It was just sad to watch.
Even JR who returned as a special guest commentator for this match wasn't able to save it, Taker hits an awful looking Last Ride and had a bad counter into the Tombstone Piledriver, which Roman kicked out of, obviously.
Roman hits Taker with a 3rd spear and pinned him. After his celebration we got the saddest ending to a WrestleMania ever, it left everyone including yours truly in tears!
The Undertaker left his gear in the ring, he kissed his wife Michelle and for 26 years broke character for the first time, it was the right time though as he said his goodbye to the WWE fans.
After almost three decades of entertaining us and performing in front of the whole world inside of the squared circle, The Undertaker finally decided to hang up the boots!
When The Hardy Boyz made their return I was filled with happiness and excitement! But for this one, it left me with sadness and the reality that I just witnessed the man who made me a wrestling fan have his last match.
Thank You Taker!
Thanks For Reading.
